We are now a month into the 2024 Tennis Season, and with the first major open complete, I think it is safe to say we are all excited to see how the year ahead progresses.
The calendar is full this year, and we also have the Olympics to look forward to. Kicking off the tour with the Australian Open is always a hit and gets the momentum going for the season. Already, we have seen some great matches, long hours on the court, and top-ranked players getting eliminated early on.
We must give big congratulations to Jannik Sinner on securing his first Grand Slam Title. He truly played incredible matches, from beating the great Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals to winning the finals against Daniil Medvedev. He really showed his skills and determination in this tournament, and it paid off.
Aryna Sabalenka also secured her second Grand Slam Title and has back-to-back wins at the Australian Open, and I think this is going to set her momentum for the whole season. We will see her with another Grand Slam Title before you know it.
I am happy to see Naomi Osaka back on the court this year. She is going to have to put in the work to get her ranking back, but she is determined.
She has confirmed that she will be playing in every tournament this year to build her strength and confidence. I can’t wait to see this comeback.
During this Grand Slam, we saw multiple top-ranked players eliminated within the first three rounds. I think Iga Swiatek is the biggest shock of this tournament; as the current #1 ranked player, you do not expect to see them go out in the 3rd round. This is going to set a fire under her, and now, going into her most dominated tournament at the French Open, I think we will see her with another win.
With the French Open coming up in May, we expect to see a lot of players in the smaller opens prepping and perfecting the game. I will be following my two favourite players closely, Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz.
Will we see Taylor get a Grand Slam Title this year?
I can’t wait to see who is ready for the iconic clay courts.
