The NBA trade deadline is always an exciting time for basketball fans, and this year's deadline was no exception. One trade that hit close to home for us here at the Tidal League Network was one of our own, Mikal Bridges.
While the trade from Phoenix to Brooklyn has generated a lot of buzz among fans and analysts, especially since in his first week as a Net Bridges broke a personal best in points per game, and with news that the Memphis Grizzlies aggressively tried to acquire him from the Nets, even willing to give up four first round draft picks - it also has a personal impact on Mikal's mother, Tyneeha Rivers, who is the host of the "Tipping the Scales" podcast.
The news of the trade was surprising to say the least, but presents new opportunities for Mikal to grow and develop his skills as a player. Shortly after the trade T went on record with her thoughts;
"These past couple of days have been such an emotional roller coaster. As a parent, you want to protect and “fix all things” for your children. Nonetheless, there will be times when all you can do is be their rock and support them along the way. When my son was first drafted to his hometown team, and then traded to the Phoenix Suns shortly after, my heart was shattered in a million pieces but I learned to trust that God had something special for him, I just couldn’t see at the time. I’m incredibly thankful for his 4.5 seasons with the Suns as it has helped shape him to be the player that he is today...The Brooklyn Nets are getting a leader that plays hard every single night, has grit beyond belief, plays unselfishly, and does whatever it takes to win games... the type of player that every coach should want...fun fact, what is NY known for other than its towering skyscrapers? Their BRIDGES!!!"
