I hope to write at least one post each week about the MLB, with most likely a heavy focus on my favourite team, the Toronto Blue Jays. But this week is extra special because I was able to be in Toronto to watch game one of this series against the Royals live at Rogers Center.
There is something very special about being in a Major League ballpark, especially one as iconic to Canadians as Rogers Center (it will always be SkyDome to me, though).
I guess most sports fans feel this way when they enter the building that is home to their favourite team, but I feel that way about all ballparks. I've been to Fenway too many times to count; two summers ago, I got to see a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park for the first time, and I've been in a ton of parks in the Grapefruit League during Spring Training. Those are even more special because they are significantly smaller, and your favourite players are right there, front and center.
Back to the subject at hand, though, this series is against KC. The home stretch has been a bit rocky for the team. They had been on a bit of a winning streak, or at least a series-winning streak until they came face to face with Shohei Ohtani and his Los Angeles Dodgers.
The one that got away, as they say, turned the Jays on their ear a bit. T
he odds of us watching our team win weren't great, particularly when a number of hideous errors by the team allowed two runs to score for the Royals, but Justin Turner quickly tied it up with a two-run home run, followed by another home run and a homer by Danny Jansen right after in the third.
I'll stop here to say that Monday's game was a Danny Jansen giveaway day. Not only did the first 15,000 fans get Jansen jerseys and his famous goggles, but we were treated to a game full of interviews and trivia on the Wisconsin native. So, to say the crowd went wild for his home run would be a pretty big understatement. The fans understood the assignment, and on Danny Jansen's giveaway day, we made sure to give him all the love.
Kansas City did give theJays a run for their money though and made it a nail biter right up to the end, but in the end, our boys got the win and the sold out crowd walked the streets of Toronto in celebration.
They weren't able to pull out another win tonight, but are back against KC tmr so hopefully win the series and get back onto their winning streak.
