Derrick Rose is Out the Mud (1 minute read)

"Out the Mud" continues to cement itself as a bonafide leader in the industry when it comes to authentic, unfiltered, out-the-mud conversations. Building on the momentum from Kevin Durant's appearance, Tony Allen and Zach Randolph sat down with Chicago's beloved son Derrick Rose at his penthouse in the windy city, fresh off the announcement that the Chicago Bulls plan to retire his jersey.

What makes this conversation stand out is how challenging Derrick's story coming up in the southside of Chicago really was, and the fact that both Tony and Derrick came from similar upbringings provides fans with an exclusive look into the adversity that Derrick overcame as a child. Exposed to gangs, organized crime, drugs, and extreme violence as a child.

As you start to absorb the conversation, everything becomes clear as to how tough Derrick is, both mentally and physically. His upbringing shaped him and prepared him for the challenges that were going to come during his professional career; although filled with stardom and accolades early on as he became the youngest NBA player to ever win MVP, his world would come crashing down during 2012 NBA Playoffs where he tore his ACL.

Going from NBA MVP to almost forgotten, Derrick could have quit but continued to persevere and fought to come back. The road was lonely and long, but his love for the game, paired with the ambition to prove that he still belonged, drove him to overcome this behemoth of a challenge. Leaving Chicago and finding a new home in New York allowed him to move on from the injury and find his muse back on the court. The constant hate and commentary about his game fueled his motivation to compete at the highest level and prove that he still had it; transitioning from New York, he eventually landed in Minnesota, where he scored a career-high 50 points, which officially stamped him. That opened doors to Detroit and eventually a return to New York. No matter where he went after his return from injury, he contributed significantly to and impacted each team in a big way.

Now just retired, "Out the Mud" celebrates Derrick Rose and gives him his flowers for an exceptional journey and career. With the Chicago Bulls announcing that they will be retiring his jersey and forever immortalizing his career with the organization. I'm excited for what's next; this is just the start of this new journey for D Rose.
